The Year 2000 Photo Countdown is an alliance between Everything 2000 and the Millennium Picture Group, a nationwide partnership of photojournalists. Each weekday, the Everything 2000 Web site will feature a new image documenting how people and institutions are preparing for year 2000.

This is the last sunset of 1999 at Bluff New Zealand, where the sun rises from the Pacific ocean and sets in the Tasman sea. It's only place on earth that the sun can be seen rising out of one ocean and set in another.

Bluff is unique in its geography and history. Bluff is the oldest European town in New Zealand, having been settled continuously since 1824. The Maori name for Bluff is Motu-pohue; Motu because of its island like appearance from the sea; and pohue due to the white convolvulus that still flowers in the forest.
