The Year 2000 Photo Countdown is an alliance between Everything 2000 and the Millennium Picture Group, a nationwide partnership of photojournalists. Each weekday, the Everything 2000 Web site will feature a new image documenting how people and institutions are preparing for year 2000.

This is New Year's Eve at New York's Times Square in 1937. Crowd estimates were approaching 250,000 in square that hasn't changed that much in size over the last sixty-two years. The crowds where just a rowdy. Half a million partygoers are expected in the same square on New Year's Eve 1999. Expectations call for 1 billion people to watch the new Millennium Ball drop on television.
