Photo courtesy of Everything2000/Corbis Images For 95 years, Times Square has been the center of worldwide attention on New Year's Eve and in 1938 when this picture was taken, the world joined joined in on the celebration as the countdown was broadcast on radio. It was in 1904 when the owners of One Times Square began conducting roof-top celebrations to usher in the New Year. Since 1907 -- the year of the first Ball Lowering celebration -- this tradition has been a universal symbol of welcoming the New Year.
