The Year 2000 Photo Countdown is an alliance between Everything 2000 and the Millennium Picture Group, a nationwide partnership of photojournalists. Each weekday, the Everything 2000 Web site will feature a new image documenting how people and institutions are preparing for year 2000.

Seattle's Space Needle was rented out five years ago for a private New Year's Eve party for several northwest families. That doesn't mean the Space Needle won't participate in New Year's Eve activities, it will. The Space Needle serves as Seattle's countdown clock. When the elevator reaches the top, fireworks explode off the roof and sides of the Space Needle making it a giant roman candle. This year, organizers are planning the biggest New Year's Eve fireworks show ever.
