The UN just signed an agreement of participation with Hannover, Germany where the event will take place. The theme of the world Expo for year 2000 is "Humankind, Nature, Technology. The United Nations plans to highlight all its state-of-the-art technology to document the work of UN organizations. The United Nations has a long history of active participation in international expositions, beginning with the 1950 Haiti Expo, and has since successfully participated in 14 others. At Expo 2000 in Hannover, the United Nations pavilion will be immediately adjacent to the main entrance and directly face One World Expo Plaza: the main events stadium and the major focal point for all commemorative activities, performances and celebrations. Expo 2000 is expected to attract between 40 and 50 million visitors over a period of five months. Organizers say that the models and projects to be presented by nations, corporations and organizations will look ahead to what is going to happen to the world of technology and nature.
In the Thematic Area, it is intended that visitors will experience
concrete proposals for solutions to the global challenges of the 21st
century ranging from a "factory that does not pollute the air to an ear
implant for children who are born deaf". Countries participating feel the Expo will attract attention to their area. Singapore is spending $10 million to promote itself at the Expo.
