What Will Man Accomplish in the Next 100 Years?

Not as much as women according to a millennium related survey

Americans expect to see the first female President as well as women Catholic priests sometime during the next 100 years according to a new survey commissioned by the Billennium Organizing Committee and conducted by National Family Opinion Research, Inc. One thousand households surveyed in the "Official Millennium Survey' on the appeal of a broad range of possible accomplishments.

In addition to electing the first female President of the United States and female Catholic priests, curing major illnesses and interstellar travel also topped the list of accomplishments expected to happen during the next century while eliminating poverty and pollution ranked lowest. "People believe that women will be more of a catalyst for leadership and change in the next century than men," says Mark Mitten, President of the Billennium Organizing Committee in a press release.

As the dawn of the new millennium nears, people’s expectations for what we will accomplish in the 21st century are still hopeful but very different than they at the end of the last century.

"People have a much more realistic and personal perspective on what they think can be accomplished during the 21st Century," says Mitten. "It’s fascinating to contrast the fact that in 1899 people thought pollution and poverty would be eliminated by 2000. Yet, today, at the brink of the new millennium, those two items rank lowest as what today’s generation feels can actually be achieved."

• 56% First woman president
• 50% A cure for cancer
• 42% A cure for AIDS
• 35% A human clone
• 32% Average human life exceeds 100 years
• 26% A cure for blindness
• 24% Female Catholic priests
• 16% Regular travel between the planets
• 14% A colony on another planet
