STORY: Valentine brides looking to add a little color to their day Weddings of the 21st century may begin to show a bit more color. Theres a new trend in the works and it is beginning this Valentines Day. Many brides are choosing to add color to the traditional white gown. According to a Wedding Bells magazine survey from Toronto, a whopping 96 percent of millennium brides will don a white or ivory gown. However, a small and growing trend will use color to accent their dress. Color is beginning to show up in many ways, many subtle ways. While some brides are going all out choosing silver or gold dresses, others are making subtle changes. Some bridal gowns have silver or gold threads zigzagging through the veil. Other dresses include colored accessories like a pale colored shawl thrown over the shoulders for the reception. Others are deciding to go with the white dress but add colorful jewelry. The colors added are pale and light hues, but color nonetheless. One color thats gaining popularity this year is Blue. Blue is a time honored and much-loved color for weddings, and many brides are choosing to use a little light-blue or periwinkle blue with their white gown. Many other colors are being shown in wedding catalogs and on showroom floors. It looks like brides are looking for something a little less predictable, and color seems to be the answer. Adding a particular hue like blue, red or green can also be highly symbolic. Green traditionally stands for fertility and it's the contemporary hue for luck, especially for Irish and Italian families. Red is the undisputed color of love and joy in China and the same holds true for fuchsia in some parts of India. In many ways, adding color just because you love it is reflective of the new millennium trend to individuality. (Source: Calgary Herald) DATE: 1/21/2000 For more E2000 stories, click here: |
