STORY: Using new technology to record your personal history this New Year A time capsule doesnt have to be just for schools and businesses anymore, anyone can make one and this New Year Eve is a great time to get started. The Orange County Register has a web-site program and is providing tips on making time capsules to people around the world. "By engaging people in conversations and thought today, we are building a meaningful and lasting legacy for the communitys future" said Chris Anderson, publisher of the Orange County Register. The newspaper is urging its readers to get involved and hopes to bring the program to other communities with tips and suggestions for getting started. Here are some of the tips from the editors at The Orange County Register. First, select which method you will use to record your thoughts. Theres a wide variety to choose from and you have to use what is best for your time capsule. You can use the Internet, CD-ROMs, videos and audiocassettes. Second, choose who will participate in your time capsule. Decide right away if it is going to be an individual project, family project or something you want to do at your workplace, church or in your community. Third, think before you write or record. Here are some suggestions for stuff you can use in your time capsule.
If you want to enter your time capsule online for others to view you can do so at the www.discoveroc2000.com web site. You can connect to other time capsules by searching the site by name, community or topic. You can even enter a chat room for a deeper discussion.
